- Yili’s Satine A2β-casein Organic Pure Milk has achieved “zero-carbon” throughout its entire life cycle, ranging from raw material acquisition, production and delivery to product manufacturing, transportation, use and disposal.
- This marks another key step taken by Yili to achieve its carbon reduction goals by developing a green industrial chain.
On March 12, 2022, Yili’s Satine A2β-casein Organic Pure Milk was certified for having become the first “zero-carbon milk” in China. It received the PAS 2060 certification on carbon neutrality from Bureau Veritas, a world leader in testing, inspection and certification, which recognized the milk for having achieved carbon neutrality throughout its full life cycle.
The company introduced the “zero-carbon milk” within a month after Yili Yunnan Dairy achieved carbon neutrality. Pan Gang, Chairman of Yili Group, said that this marks another key step taken by Yili towards its New Vision for creating social value. It is also a breakthrough for Yili in terms of further supporting the realization of China’s peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality goals.
Engaging the dairy industry for green development
As a leader of the industry, “we will strive to fulfill our social responsibilities by focusing on carbon neutrality throughout the pursuit of technological innovation and green development”, said Pan Gang. The company will endeavor to engage upstream and downstream partners in the industrial chain around green, low-carbon and sustainable development.
Pan Gang put forward the concept of “green leadership” as far back as 2007 at the first Summer Davos Forum. In 2009, the strategy of “green industrial chain” was then introduced, advocating a green philosophy, focused on integrating production, consumption and growth, that extends across the entire industry. In 2021, Pan Gang introduced the New Vision for creating social value, outlining how Yili will take the lead in realizing the 2030/2060 climate goals and achieve lead ratings on sustainability.
Demonstrating its commitment to delivering upon its carbon reduction goals, Yili has carried out corporate carbon inventory assessments for 12 consecutive years and also received the first “zero-carbon factory” certification in China’s food industry. In addition, it is now establishing the Yili Future Intelligence and Health Valley in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, which will become China’s first five-star project for carbon neutrality.
